Microsoft has integrated Microsoft 365 Backup Management into the SharePoint Admin Center, consolidating backup configuration and management for SharePoint and OneDrive in a single location.
Microsoft 365 Backup now supports granular restore for SharePoint and OneDrive, letting administrators restore individual files and folders from protected restore points.
Microsoft has added two new Entra ID admin roles — SharePoint Backup Administrator and Exchange Backup Administrator. These roles allow organizations to delegate Microsoft 365 Backup tasks without relying on SharePoint, Exchange, or Global admins.
Microsoft 365 Backup now supports multi-admin notifications. Organizations can configure up to 20 recipients, including admins, distribution lists, or security groups, to receive email alerts for critical backup events and optional routine activities.
A new admin role has been added in Entra ID: Microsoft 365 Backup Administrator
Previously, the Global, SharePoint or Exchange Admin role was required for Microsoft 365 Backup.
