A few months ago, Microsoft planned to rename the Surveys agent to Forms agent, but later canceled the update.
Microsoft is now retiring the Surveys agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot on 31 August 2026 and bringing its capabilities directly into Microsoft Forms. Rather than using a separate agent to create and manage surveys, users will do all of this directly in Forms, where Copilot-powered features are built in via a dynamic action button that opens Copilot Chat in Microsoft Forms, as shown here, similar to the recent Planner agent updates.
This brings form creation, data collection, and analysis together in one place, simplifying the process while still offering the same AI-assisted capabilities users have come to rely on.
Users currently using the Surveys agent will notice the change most directly:
- When users attempt to open the Surveys agent, they will be redirected to Microsoft Forms, where they can continue creating and managing surveys with Copilot’s help.
- Forms created previously through the Surveys agent will remain fully accessible in Microsoft Forms, so no existing work will be lost.
- Users will also retain access to their past conversation history with the Surveys agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot, preserving that context even after the transition.
The new behavior will be enabled automatically for users with a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. Everyone currently using the Surveys agent will move to this streamlined experience without any change to their existing permissions.
