First Teams channel in newly created teams will use the Threaded layout

Starting in May 2026, Microsoft will update the behavior of the first channel in newly created teams.
The first channel created in a new Teams team will default to the Threaded conversation layout rather than the Posts layout, aligning with Microsoft’s expectation for how newly created channels should behave.

The Threaded layout organizes messages into conversations, making it easier to follow discussions, reply in context, and keep related exchanges grouped together. This should be useful for project-based collaboration where multiple topics may be active at the same time.

  • This change applies only to teams created after the rollout begins. Existing teams and their channels are not affected.
  • Team owners who prefer the Posts layout for the first channel can switch back at any time after the team has been created.

Organizations should inform their users about the change.
