In November 2023, I published a post explaining how users can change the display language of Loop on the web. Unfortunately, Microsoft has still not resolved the issue where Loop defaults to English (en-US) when a regional language format is configured for the account, as already demonstrated in March 2024.
Two reminders from my November 2023 post:
- By default, Loop on the web uses the language defined in the preferredLanguage property of your Entra ID account.
- If preferredLanguage is not set or the user is not signed in, Loop falls back to the browser’s language preferences.
The core issue is that Loop on the web still does not support regional language formats. This is particularly frustrating for users in countries where regional variants are used, such as in Switzerland.
For example, if preferredLanguage is set to de-CH (German Switzerland), Loop on the web falls back to English (en-US). If the value is changed to de-DE, Loop switches to German after signing out and back in. You can find multiple user requests in the Microsoft feedback forum for Loop describing this issue.
Loop on the web supports only the display languages available in the My Account language selector at myaccount.microsoft.com/settingsandprivacy/language.
Notably, German (Switzerland) (de-CH) is not available in this list, but an admin can easily set it via Microsoft Graph or in a synchronized Active Directory account. Only German (Germany) (de-DE) is there. This list effectively defines the supported language set for Loop on the web.

You can easily reproduce this behavior.
Sign out of your account or open a private browser session and navigate to loop.cloud.microsoft. This scenario closely mirrors the behavior for signed-in users, except that Loop uses the browser’s language preferences rather than the account’s preferredLanguage value.
I simulated three scenarios:
- German (Switzerland) is configured as the primary browser language. Because Loop on the web does not support de-CH and does not check secondary languages, it falls back to English (en-US), the default language.

- The same configuration is used, but German (Germany) is moved to the top of the browser language list. After refreshing the page, Loop on the web is in German because de-DE is a supported regional format.

- You can reproduce the behavior with multiple other regional formats.
As a last sample, Italian (Italy) (it-IT) is supported, so Loop on the web appears in Italian.

Italian (Switzerland) (it-CH) is not supported. Loop on the web does not check secondary language preferences and therefore falls back to English (en-US).

Thank you, Microsoft, for this frustrating, inexplicable user experience! Loop has been generally available since 2023.
