Microsoft is retiring the standalone Share to Teams experience in Outlook for users who don’t have the Teams desktop app installed. This change removes the web-based sharing dialog and aligns Outlook with the Teams client for a consistent and modern experience across platforms.
This retirement affects:
- Outlook for Windows (New and Classic)
- Outlook for Mac (New and Legacy)
- Outlook on the web
Timeline
Retirement is planned between 22 September and 3 October 2025.
Impact on users
This change impacts only users who don’t have the Teams desktop app installed on Windows or Mac.
Until now, those users could fall back to a web-based Share to Teams dialog directly in Outlook.

After 22 September 2025:
- Selecting Share to Teams in Outlook without the Teams desktop app will redirect to a launcher page prompting installation of the Teams client.
- The standalone web dialog will no longer be available.
- On Mac, users may see an error because of Apple restrictions on launcher dialogs.
To ensure the share flow works, users need to be signed in to Teams with the same account they use in Outlook.
