New retention policy for Teams attendance reports

Microsoft is implementing a new one-year retention policy for Teams attendance reports. Previously, attendance reports did not have a retention policy. This update aims to enhance compliance with the Microsoft privacy policy.

Timeline
  • The rollout of the updated retention policy is already in progress and will affect all attendance reports.
  • Attendance reports for events created before 1 November 2024 will remain accessible until 31 August 2025.
  • If an organization wants to apply the one-year retention policy immediately they should contact the Microsoft Support team.

Impact on your organization

To ensure access to attendance reports for all meetings and events created before 1 November 2024, it is recommended that attendance data be downloaded using the Attendance tab in meetings or Microsoft Graph. There is no bulk download option available for attendance reports.

The updated retention policy will also affect Microsoft Graph API requests for attendance reports.
