Last June, Microsoft expanded breakout rooms in Teams meetings to support up to 1,000 participants with up to 200 breakout rooms.
Until recently, breakout rooms in Teams Webinars were limited to 300 participants. Webinars with more than 300 participants did not support breakout rooms, as described here.
Webinar organizers can now use breakout rooms in larger Teams events.
Webinars with up to 1,000 participants support up to 100 breakout rooms (previously 50), allowing organizers to split a large audience into smaller groups for focused discussions and hands-on activities. This matches the maximum webinar size of 1,000 participants; larger events are treated as a large audience event.
This should make large webinars more interactive, especially for training sessions, onboarding programs, workshops, and other collaborative learning events. The increased breakout room limit is already available to organizers whose Microsoft 365 subscription includes Teams Webinars.
Licensing note:
Under the new Teams Events licensing model, Webinars should be included in the Foundation event category.
