Microsoft is restructuring Teams Events capabilities into two license-based categories: Foundational event features and Advanced event features.
The current update defines which licenses include each category, the attendee limits for each category, and how Teams Enterprise and Teams Premium relate to Teams Events.

The updated Teams Events licensing should start at the end of September 2026.
How does this affect your organization?
In April, Microsoft updated Teams Events capabilities for Enterprise customers, including restrictions on Teams Premium features.

The current update affects all commercial organizations (special environments such as GCC, GCC High, or DoD are not included) and introduces two categories of Teams Events, as described here:
- Foundational event features: Available with most Teams licenses and support creating and running Teams events.
- Advanced event features: Requires a Teams Enterprise license. Includes all foundational event features plus adds controls for event production, management, engagement, customization, and analytics. A Teams Premium Legacy license includes all advanced event features until the current contract ends or is renewed.

1 Interactive attendees can actively participate in the event using features such as reactions, chat, raise hand, or polls.
2 View-only attendees can watch the event live and participate in Q&A, but cannot use interactive features.
3 Larger events require attendee capacity packs assigned to the event organizer. Capacity packs support events with up to 100,000 attendees.
4 Organizers with a Teams Premium Legacy license can host events with up to 100,000 attendees without an attendee capacity pack.
Administrators should review the licenses assigned to Teams Events organizers, assign an eligible Teams Enterprise license to organizers who need advanced event features, and evaluate attendee capacity pack requirements for events with more than 3,000 interactive attendees.
