Microsoft 365 Backup Management is now part of the SharePoint Admin Center

Microsoft has integrated Microsoft 365 Backup Management into the SharePoint Admin Center. This change should consolidate backup configuration and management for SharePoint and OneDrive in a single location.

Previously, administrators needed to switch between the SharePoint Admin Center and the Microsoft 365 Admin Center to manage backup settings. That is no longer necessary, as everything is now available in one place.

As a reminder, managing Microsoft 365 Backup requires the SharePoint Administrator role, making the move to the SharePoint Admin Center a logical improvement.

  • This change has no effect on existing backup settings and policies.
  • Exchange backup configurations are not available in the SharePoint Admin Center.
  • The rollout should be completed in May 2026 and will affect tenants using Microsoft 365 Backup.
