Microsoft is rolling out Autocorrect in Teams Chats and Channels. Autocorrect should enhance the existing Teams spellcheck feature by automatically correcting commonly misspelled words while users compose messages.
The update is available for Teams on Windows desktop, macOS, and web.

The rollout should be completed by February 2026.
How does this affect your users?
Users will find a new setting called “Correct words while typing” under Teams settings > General > Editor spellcheck. The autocorrect setting is enabled by default for the primary language.

Autocorrect is disabled by default for additional languages. Users can manually enable autocorrect for multiple languages if needed.

Testing the enhancement can be challenging, as Microsoft only states: “Commonly misspelled words are automatically corrected during message composition.”
You need to try common misspellings.
For example, “Message” is (auto)corrected, while “word” is not considered common enough. When autocorrect is triggered, Teams applies the correction and shows a green indicator. Users can revert the change if necessary.
