End of sale for the AI Builder Capacity Add-ons

Microsoft is transitioning AI Builder service credits to Copilot Credits across Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dynamics 365 Finance. This transition includes the retirement of AI Builder service credit add-ons and the end of seeded AI Builder credits in eligible SKUs.

Organizations using AI Builder capacity add-ons should review their current pricing and credit allocation, and carefully read the documentation on dual-mode licensing to understand the upcoming transition.

AI Builder features (AI prompts and AI models) are available in two different contexts:

  • Power Automate and Power Apps context: Allows you to enrich cloud flows or apps with AI prompts or AI models such as document processing tools.
  • Microsoft Copilot Studio context: Allows you to enrich agents with AI prompts or agent flows with AI prompts or AI models like document processing tools. In this context, AI Builder features are sometimes referred to as AI tools.

In Copilot Studio context, AI Builder features are licensed based on Copilot Credits. This rule doesn’t change.
In Power Automate and Power Apps context, AI Builder features are licensed exclusively based on AI Builder credits until November 1, 2025.

As of November 1, 2025, AI Builder features in Power Automate and Power Apps will also be licensed based on Copilot Credits. Existing customers with paid or seeded AI Builder credits can continue using them. When AI Builder credits are in overage or not available, the licensing system checks Copilot Credits and allows the feature to run if sufficient credits exist.

New customers are no longer able to purchase a paid AI Builder capacity add-on. They need Copilot Credits to access and run AI Builder features in Power Automate and Power Apps.

Timeline
  • 1 November 2025: End of sale for AI Builder service credit add-ons for new customers.
  • 1 November 2026:
    • End of seeded AI Builder credits in eligible SKUs for all customers.
    • End of life for all AI Builder service credit add-ons (including renewals and additional purchases for existing customers).

Impact on your organization

Currently, an organization can purchase three types of AI Builder capacity add-ons (MCA product ID CFQ7TTC0LH0Z):

  • AI Builder Capacity Add-on T1
  • AI Builder Capacity Add-on T2 (min 10 packs)
  • AI Builder Capacity Add-on T3 (min 50 packs)

Each T-pack includes 1,000,000 AI credits per month.
This capacity add-on will no longer be available to new customers starting 1 November 2025. Existing AI Builder service credits add-ons can continue to be used as long as the subscriptions are active.

AI Builder Credits are the currency used to consume AI capabilities within the Microsoft Power Platform, especially in Power Automate, Power Apps, and Power Pages. They represent processing capacity for AI models such as document processing, image recognition, text extraction, prediction, and custom AI models.

There are also seeded AI Builder credits in eligible license SKUs, which Microsoft lists here in a table:

AI Builder credits from the AI Builder add-on (1,000,000 credits per add-on) and AI Builder credits coming from licenses with seeded capacity (for example, Power Automate Premium, which provides 5,000 credits) are gathered at the tenant level. They represent your total entitlement.

After the retirement, organizations must purchase Copilot Studio Credits. It’s still the “Microsoft Copilot Studio” license SKU (MCA product ID CFQ7TTC0LH1F).

  • A Copilot Studio Credits pack includes 25,000 credits per month per pack.
  • Copilot Studio Credits are not included in seeded license SKUs.

If you have a mix of AI Builder Credits and Copilot Studio Credits between November 2025 and November 2026:

  • In case of overage or unavailability of AI Builder service credits, events using AI Builder credits will attempt to fall back to Copilot Credits.
  • Extension requests for AI Builder overages will no longer be supported.
  • The “important overage” designation will be retired: Fallback to Copilot Credits occurs when AI Builder credit capacity is consumed. Features will then be blocked once Copilot Credit capacity is also exhausted.
