Microsoft is enhancing message forwarding in Teams. Forwarded messages now include a clickable link to the original chat or channel post, depending on the recipient’s permissions. This enhancement improves traceability and allows recipients to quickly access the full conversation context.
Timeline
The rollout should be completed by November 2025.
How does this affect your users
Previously, when users forwarded a message, only the message content was included, without any information about the original message.

After the rollout, forwarded messages will include a link in the timestamp that leads back to the original message. Selecting the link opens the original chat or channel message, if the recipient has access.

The clickable link is now visible in all forwarded messages, including those sent before this update. Teams will display a notification indicating that recipients have no permission to view it if they don’t have access to the original message.

These clickable links in forwarded messages are currently supported in the Teams desktop clients for Windows and macOS, as well as in the Teams web client.
