By the end of January 2025, users should be able to record the correct pronunciation of their name in Teams and Outlook. The feature may already be available in Teams clients with Public Preview.
After this rollout, users can record and share the correct pronunciation of their name on their profile card. With a click, users can play and listen to name pronunciations recorded by their colleagues.
After the rollout, a new recording icon will be available on the user’s profile card in Teams and Outlook.
An assistant guides the users through the steps. The recording can be a maximum of 10 seconds long.
Users can play the recording before publishing.
The recording is saved in the user’s mailbox. Therefore, an Exchange service plan is required for this feature.
The option to play a recording is visible in the profile for users with recording.
Disable name pronunciation globally
Administrators will have the option to enable/disable NamePronunciation globally by the end of January 2025. Currently, configuration through the API is not working (Private Preview).
In the documentation Microsoft states that the default configuration is False (Disabled). I cannot confirm this in my tenants. I assume that the default configuration is True (Enabled).
isEnabledInOrganization
true to enable name pronunciation in the organization; otherwise, false. The default value is false.
