A digital certificate used to validate licensing for Microsoft 365 Apps on Mac and iOS devices is set to expire in July 2026. Organizations should review their Microsoft 365 Apps versions to avoid interruptions.
- Certificate expiration only affects Microsoft 365 Apps running older versions. Users already on the latest builds are not affected.
- Windows and Android devices are not affected.
Timeline
The current licensing certificate expires on Monday, 13 July 2026.
How does this affect your users?
Microsoft 365 Apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote) will enter read-only mode on devices that do not meet the minimum requirements by 13 July 2026. Users will be able to view and print documents, but will not be able to edit, create, or save them.
To maintain full functionality, devices must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Mac: macOS 12 or later, and Microsoft 365 app version 16.83 or later
- iOS/iPadOS: iOS 17.0 or later, and Microsoft 365 app version 2.93 or later
Administrators should review Microsoft 365 Apps versions on Mac, iOS, and iPadOS devices to ensure all managed devices are updated to the required app versions before 13 July 2026.
