Microsoft will consolidate the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel into the Monthly Enterprise Channel starting in July 2026, creating a single enterprise-focused update channel for Microsoft 365 Apps. Unifying these channels should reduce complexity and overlap, helping organizations adopt new capabilities, security updates, and quality improvements more quickly.
This change affects all devices currently configured for the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel.
Timeline
The change is scheduled for 14 July 2026 with the Patch Tuesday update release.
How does this affect your organization?
Currently, devices configured for the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel receive feature updates twice a year (January and July), while devices configured for the Monthly Enterprise Channel receive them monthly on the second Tuesday.
After the July 2026 consolidation, Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel devices will shift from a 6-month to a 1-month feature cadence, with a 2-month rollback option. This feature cadence is the main difference between the two channels, but it can affect your production devices that require a lower release cycle. Consult the update channel documentation for a comparison.

Devices currently on the Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel will begin receiving the same feature and security updates published to the Monthly Enterprise Channel from 14 July 2026 onward.
- Administrators managing update channel assignments should review any Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel-specific deployment rings or deferral policies ahead of the July rollout date.
- Devices managed via Intune, Configuration Manager, or Group Policy will continue to honor existing channel assignments; however, the effective update cadence for Semi-Annual Enterprise Channel-assigned devices will align with the Monthly Enterprise Channel after the transition date.
This change has no impact on devices on other update channels, such as the Current Channel or Current Channel (Preview).
