Microsoft is introducing real-time polls in Teams Town hall events for organizers with a Teams Premium license. Using the Polls app, organizers can create and share multiple-choice and other types of polls to collect feedback during live events.
Timeline
The rollout should be completed in October 2025.
How does this affect your Town hall organizers?
Town hall events in Teams now offer Premium apps. As the name implies, the organizer needs a Teams Premium license to use these apps. The first Premium app is Polls.
Regular users can continue using Polls in standard meetings without a Teams Premium license.
After the rollout, Town hall organizers with a Teams Premium license will see an inline notification about the Polls availability. They can then create and publish polls to attendees, enabling real-time interaction and engagement.

The organization can add the Polls app to the Town hall event. The app must be added in advance; otherwise, it won’t be available during the event.

Anyone with the Presenter role or higher can create a poll. This account does not require a Teams Premium license. The Premium license is needed to add the Polls app to the event, not to use it later (at least not yet).
- The Word cloud option in the Polls app is not available as a poll type.
- Polls can be prepared before or created during the event, but cannot be sent after the Town hall has ended.
- The Polls feature in Town hall events is currently available only on Teams for Windows and Mac.

Attendees will see the poll on their screen and can submit their responses in real time.

How to disable Premium apps in Teams Town hall events?
Premium apps are available by default for Town hall organizers with a Teams Premium license.
Teams administrators can disable Premium apps via an Events policy; however, it’s an all-or-nothing setting. Currently, there’s only one Premium app: Polls. Keep in mind, you can control app availability via Teams app policies.
The setting is managed via the BroadcastPremiumApps property.
BroadcastPremiumApps
This setting allows tenant admins to specify whether an organizer of a Teams Premium Town hall may add an app accessible by everyone, including attendees, in a broadcast-style event (including Town halls). This does not include control over apps (such as AI Producer and Custom Streaming Apps) that are only accessible by the Event group.
Possible values are:
- Disabled: An organizer of a Premium Town hall CANNOT add a Premium app such as Polls to the event.
- Enabled: An organizer of a Premium Town hall can add a Premium app such as Polls to the event.
