Microsoft has introduced multi-admin notifications for Microsoft 365 Backup. Organizations can now configure a centralized notification list so designated admins and stakeholders receive email alerts for critical backup events and optional routine activities.

This capability is now available in Microsoft 365 Backup.
How does this affect your organization?
Accounts with the roles Global Administrator and Microsoft 365 Backup Administrator can now enable email notifications for Microsoft 365 Backup. Email notifications are disabled by default.
The notification list improves visibility, reduces missed signals on configuration changes, and strengthens governance around restore operations.
Navigate to M365 Admin Center > Org settings > Pay-as-you-go services > Storage > Backup, or open the Microsoft 365 Backup start page and use the option in the top-right corner.

You can configure up to 20 recipients, including individual accounts, distribution lists, or security groups.
Microsoft also describes the difference between harmful actions and routine events.
By default, recipients are notified only about potentially harmful events, but you can also opt in to receive notifications for routine events. Notifications are sent as a daily email digest whenever at least one relevant event occurs. If both types are enabled, you receive two separate emails—one for potentially harmful events and another for routine events.
