Microsoft introduced Standard and Priority access for Copilot Chat back in July.
Now, Microsoft is enabling more generative AI features for Copilot Standard users, extending access to those who do not have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. These users will be able to generate and edit visual content such as posters, banners, infographics, and images using AI-powered tools.
Timeline
- Web app, Windows, and macOS apps: Rollout starts in August 2025.
- Microsoft 365 Copilot Mobile app: Rollout scheduled to begin in October 2025.
Impact on your users
Users without a Microsoft 365 Copilot license will see new options in the Create experience at m365.cloud.microsoft/create. With standard access, they can now generate and edit posters, banners, infographics, and images.
Standard access in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat depends on service capacity and may vary throughout the day. If capacity is unavailable, users are notified in-product. Any task already in progress will continue uninterrupted.

Copilot Standard users will not have access to generate videos, surveys, or brand kits.
Existing tenant-level controls for image generation remain in effect. If image generation is disabled, the following features are hidden for both licensed and unlicensed users: Image, Poster, Banner, Infographic, Story, and Edit an image.
