General information
According to Article 13 of the Swiss Federal Constitution and the provisions of the Swiss Data Protection Act (DSG), every person has the right to privacy and protection against misuse of their personal data. I take the protection of your personal data very seriously and handle it confidentially and in accordance with the applicable data protection laws and this privacy policy.
In cooperation with my hosting providers, I take all reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect databases against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or falsification.
Please note that data transmission over the Internet (e.g. communication by e-mail) may have security vulnerabilities. Complete protection of data from third-party access is not possible.
By using this website, you consent to the collection, processing, and use of data as described below. In general, this website can be visited without registration. Information such as accessed pages, file names, date, and time may be stored on the server for statistical purposes without direct personal reference. Personal data such as name, address, or e-mail address is collected only voluntarily. Without your explicit consent, this data will not be shared with third parties.
Processing of personal data
Personal data refers to any information relating to an identified or identifiable person. A data subject is any person whose personal data is processed. Processing includes any operation performed on personal data, regardless of the means or procedures used, such as collection, storage, modification, use, transmission, or deletion.
I process personal data in accordance with Swiss data protection law. Where and insofar as the EU GDPR applies, data is processed based on the following legal grounds under Article 6 (1) GDPR:
- Art. 6 (1)(a): Processing based on the consent of the data subject.
- Art. 6 (1)(b): Processing for the performance of a contract or pre-contractual measures.
- Art. 6 (1)(c): Processing for compliance with a legal obligation.
- Art. 6 (1)(d): Processing to protect vital interests of the data subject or another natural person.
- Art. 6 (1)(f): Processing to pursue legitimate interests, unless overridden by the rights or freedoms of the data subject. Legitimate interests include maintaining website functionality, information security, enforcing legal claims, and compliance with Swiss law.
Personal data is stored only as long as necessary for the stated purpose. If legal retention obligations apply, processing is restricted accordingly.
Storage period
Data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was collected. For example, data collected to provide the website is deleted after the session ends.
Comments
When visitors leave comments, the blog collects the data shown in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect spam.
An anonymized string (hash) may be created from your e-mail address and sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it.
You can view Gravatar’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy.
After your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes publicly visible with your comment.
Contact forms
The data you provide via the contact form is stored to process your inquiry. A valid e-mail address and name are required to respond to you. Your data will be deleted once the communication is complete, unless you explicitly request further contact.
Cookies
This blog uses cookies – small text files that store user-related information on your device while using the website. Cookies help analyze site usage patterns and improve usability. They may remain stored after your session and be retrieved on your next visit. You can configure your browser to block or delete cookies, though some functions of this website may not work correctly as a result.
You can generally object to the use of cookies for online marketing via About Ads (US) or Your Online Choices (EU). Alternatively, disable cookies in your browser settings.
Embedded content from other websites
Posts on this blog may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, or articles). Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly. These sites may collect data about you, use cookies, or include third-party tracking. If you are logged into those websites, your activity may be tracked under that profile.
Newsletter subscription
You can subscribe to the Topedia Blog newsletter to receive updates about new posts. A valid e-mail address and double opt-in confirmation are required. Your IP address, date, and time of registration are stored for verification and security purposes.
The newsletter service is operated via Mailjet. Mailjet’s privacy policy is available here. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in each newsletter or via the contact form. Please include the e-mail address you used for the subscription.
Embedded YouTube videos
Some posts contain embedded YouTube videos. When you view such a page, a connection to YouTube’s servers is established, informing YouTube which page you visited. If you are logged into your YouTube account, this data is linked to your profile. You can prevent this by logging out of YouTube before visiting. YouTube may set cookies to record user behavior when videos are played.
How long is your data stored?
Comments and associated metadata are stored indefinitely to automatically recognize and approve follow-up comments.
Your data rights
If you have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data, including any data you have provided. You can also request the deletion of all personal data stored about you, except data required for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through automated spam detection services.

To protect your data during transmission, this website uses SSL encryption via HTTPS. Data collected through Topedia Blog services (e.g. newsletter) is stored in Swiss data centers. Third-party data (e.g. analytics) may be stored outside Switzerland.
