Microsoft is retiring the Similarity Checker feature in Word.
Starting 3 October 2027, users will no longer be able to access Similarity Checker through the Microsoft Editor experience in Word.

Users who currently rely on Similarity Checker to review their documents will need to find an alternative tool for that specific purpose, as this functionality will no longer be part of Word once the retirement takes effect. Copilot in Word is not designed or intended to function as a formal similarity, plagiarism, or originality-checking tool, so it should not be treated as a replacement for the similarity capability.
This change does not affect other writing, editing, and citation features in Word. Microsoft Editor continues to offer spelling, grammar, clarity, and style suggestions as before, so Word’s broader writing assistance experience stays the same.
