Auto-pinning for Microsoft 365 companion apps will be removed

In October 2025, Microsoft added companion apps to the Microsoft 365 Copilot app-pinning option in the Microsoft 365 admin center. The admin center control allowed pinning of the Microsoft 365 Copilot app and its companion apps (Files, Calendar, People) to the Windows taskbar.

Microsoft will remove the companion apps from this setting by the end of July 2026.
Going forward, this control will only pin the Microsoft 365 Copilot app. Companion apps (Files, Calendar, and People) will no longer be pinned through this control.

Pinning for companion apps will be removed

Existing taskbar pins for companion apps are not affected. Pins already deployed remain in place and will not be removed by this update.
Organizations that still require companion app pinning can continue to manage it through custom Microsoft Intune taskbar policies.
