Microsoft is rolling out a new Sharing Links for Videos feature in SharePoint. This enhancement ensures that videos embedded in pages and news posts remain viewable by users, even if they don’t already have site permissions, by automatically generating secure sharing links.
Timeline
The rollout is expected to be completed by August 2025.
How does this affect your organization?
When authors add videos to SharePoint pages or news posts, using either the File and Media web part or the Stream web part, two new dialog boxes will now appear.
Copy video to this page?
If the video is added from OneDrive or another SharePoint site collection, users will see a “Copy video to this page?” dialog.
- Copy: Copies the video to the site asset folder and creates a sharing link.
- Don’t copy: Leaves the video in its original location; only users with existing permissions can view it.

Create a shareable link for this video?
If the file is newly uploaded or selected from recent files, users will see the option “Create a sharing link for this video so that anyone in the organization can view it.” This option is enabled by default but can be turned off.
- Create link: : Generates a sharing link allowing anyone in the organization to view the video.
- Don’t create: No sharing link is created; access remains restricted to users with existing permissions.

This feature is enabled by default and applies to videos added via the File and Media or Stream web parts on SharePoint pages and news posts.
