Intune policies for Microsoft Edge in the Edge Management Service

Microsoft enhanced the Edge Management Service in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
Previously, accounts with the Edge Administrator or Intune Administrator roles could configure Edge policies either in the Edge Management Service or Intune. However, there was no combined view of both policies.

In March, Microsoft added roadmap item 485799, noting that Intune policies should be available in the Edge Management Service. This improvement is now available.

Microsoft Edge: Intune policies in the Edge management service
Admins now can set Intune policies via the Edge management service, alongside the existing cloud policies. This enables admins to deploy both browser policies in the cloud and Intune policies from a single pane, making it easy to keep users safe and the browser workflow streamlined. This feature comes along with a new policy creation wizard that will streamline the creation process into a comprehensive, step-by-step flow.

If admins open the Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Microsoft Edge > Configuration policies, they will find Edge policies from Cloud (Edge Management Service) and Intune.

  • The Intune policies are filtered configuration policies that include a Microsoft Edge configuration.
  • Admins can edit both policy types if assigned the necessary admin role.

As Microsoft notes in the documentation:

  • A configuration policy that has been created using the Cloud Policy service will only be available to manage in the Edge management service.
  • A configuration policy that is created as an Intune policy will be available to manage in both the Edge management service and Intune portal. Within Intune, the policy will appear inside the Configuration section within Devices. The policy details on both platforms will sync, though there are currently some existing limitations

Creating a new policy allows admins to create it as a Cloud or Intune policy.
