Retirement of Viva Goals and license update for Viva Pulse

In times of “Copilot everywhere”, Microsoft is cleaning up and changing other (non-economic) products.
Time has run out for Viva Goals, and Viva Pulse, like Viva Insights, will be partially integrated into Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Retirement of Viva Goals

Microsoft introduced Viva Goals in May 2022 and announced the global availability in August.

Viva Goals aligns teams to your organization’s strategic priorities and unites them around the mission and purpose. It helps provide clarity on employees’ work and how that work makes an impact on the business’s most important priorities. With that alignment in place, teams then can focus on doing the work, making sound decisions, and driving the desired results for the business.

In addition, Viva Goals brings business goals into the flow of everyday work, making it easier to stay up to date with connected data and automated reminders as well as to share OKRs and their progress across the organization with customized dashboards and quick links….

Viva Goals has not been economically viable for Microsoft and is being retired on 31 December 2025.

While some customers have recognized value, overall adoption and usage of Viva Goals across the Viva Suite customer base has not grown. Microsoft has been unable to reach the scale and impact needed to continue further investment and therefore has decided to deprecate the product over the next 13 months with retirement of Viva Goals on December 31, 2025.

For customers, Microsoft recommends ending the automatic license renewal for Viva Goals by December 2025 or contacting the Microsoft partner.
Microsoft provides further details in the documentation and FAQs. No replacement is planned.

License update for Viva Pulse

Similar to Viva Insights, a part of Viva Pulse will be included in the Microsoft 365 Copilot license.

Microsoft Viva Pulse empowers leaders and managers to understand their team’s experience and needs in the moment. Viva Pulse enables team leads to send brief surveys using research-backed templates to get a snapshot of team sentiment and act on feedback. Additionally, Viva Pulse reporting enables analysis of results and trends so leads can pinpoint what’s working well and which areas to focus on over time.

Microsoft 365 Copilot will not include all Viva Pulse Premium features. Microsoft has published a table about the differences. The license update is scheduled for December.
