If users insert a link from Stream (on SharePoint) Word may display the URL as unknown.

Since an update of the Microsoft 365 apps Word and PowerPoint recognize the URLs from Stream. The option for video has been expanded with the URL for Stream on SharePoint.
Word/PowerPoint now shows a preview of the video saved in Microsoft Stream (if possible) and embeds a video in the Word document or PowerPoint presentation. The video is played directly in the document if the user has read access to the video.

The following platforms and operating systems are supported.
Depending on your Microsoft 365 apps release channel the update of the local apps may still take a few months.

  • Word and PowerPoint for Windows
  • Word and PowerPoint on the web
  • PowerPoint for Mac
  • Word for Mac is not supported
  • Playback of embedded videos is possible in Word, PowerPoint, and mobile apps, regardless of the operating system.
