Update PowerPoint to keep using Live Captions & Subtitles

Microsoft is upgrading the service that powers Live Captions & Subtitles in the PowerPoint app to improve reliability, performance, and overall quality. As part of this upgrade, older versions of PowerPoint will no longer support this feature.

Users who rely on Live Captions & Subtitles during presentations will need to make sure the PowerPoint app is updated to a supported version. Without the required update, the Captions & Subtitles feature will stop working.

This change affects organizations using the Microsoft 365 PowerPoint app on Windows (Win32) and Mac.

  • Users running earlier versions of 16.0.19426.20218 on Windows or 16.103.1207.4 on macOS will lose access to Live Captions & Subtitles. There are no changes for users already on these versions or later, and no settings or configuration changes are required.

  • To continue using this feature, users must update PowerPoint to version 16.0.19426.20218 or later on Windows, or 16.103.1207.4 or later on macOS. Both builds were released in December 2025.
  • Live Captions & Subtitles are available to users with eligible Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise and Microsoft 365 Apps for business licenses.
  • Organizations should ensure devices are updated by the end of September 2026.
