SharePoint and OneDrive for Business standalone plans will be retired

Microsoft has announced the upcoming retirement of the standalone plans for SharePoint and OneDrive for Business. After this retirement, Microsoft 365 suites will be the primary way for organizations to access SharePoint and OneDrive capabilities.

This retirement affects the following license SKUs:

  • SharePoint Plan 1 (Product ID CFQ7TTC0LH0N)
  • SharePoint Plan 2 (Product ID CFQ7TTC0LH14)
  • OneDrive for Business Plan 1 (Product ID CFQ7TTC0LHSV)
  • OneDrive for Business Plan 2 (Product ID CFQ7TTC0LH1M)

Organizations should plan for alternatives such as Microsoft 365 suites, capacity packs, or pay-as-you-go storage options.

Timeline
  • Starting 1 June 2026, end of sale for new purchases. Existing customers can continue to renew their subscriptions.
  • Starting January 2027, existing customers will no longer be able to renew their subscriptions.
  • December 2029, full retirement of SharePoint Plan 1 and Plan 2, and OneDrive for Business Plan 1 and Plan 2.

How does this affect your organisation?

If your organisation uses one of the affected SKUs, you must transition to a Microsoft 365 suite (Business or Enterprise), use capacity packs, or adopt the upcoming SharePoint Pay-as-you-go (PAYG) storage option. Microsoft added the PAYG option to the roadmap in September 2025.

This is also a reminder that all four license SKUs add additional SharePoint tenant storage to your storage pool (10 GB per SharePoint plan and 500 MB per OneDrive for Business plan).
If you hold a large number of these licenses, you may need to purchase additional SharePoint storage via additional Microsoft 365 suites, the storage add-on, or soon through SharePoint storage PAYG.
