Intune Administrators can now disable the Copilot Chat button in Edge for Business.
Microsoft introduced a new policy that controls the visibility of the Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat button in both the Edge toolbar and the Edge PDF reader toolbar.

Timeline
- The policy Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled is available in Intune since August 2025 and requires Microsoft Edge version 139 or later.
- Beginning with Edge version 141, HubsSidebarEnabled no longer impacts the visibility of the Copilot Chat button.
How this affects your organization
By default, users can manually enable or disable the Copilot button through the Edge sidebar options.

Administrators can configure this setting via Intune since August 2025.
The policy Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled allows preconfiguration of the Copilot Chat button in Edge for Business.
Microsoft365CopilotChatIconEnabled
For users in an Entra ID Microsoft Edge profile, this policy controls whether the Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat icon will be shown in the Microsoft Edge for Business toolbar for Microsoft 365 Copilot licensed and unlicensed users.
This policy only applies when users are accessing Copilot in the sidepane.
- If the policy is enabled: Copilot will appear in the toolbar.
- If the policy is disabled: Copilot won’t appear in the toolbar.
- If the policy isn’t configured: Copilot shows in the toolbar, and users may enable or disable it by using the Show Copilot toggle in settings.
By default, the policy is Not Configured, allowing users to manually enable or disable the Copilot Chat button in Edge settings.
Admins can permanently disable the button or preconfigure it as disabled by default while still allowing users to re-enable it manually.

In my case, I disabled the button with the “user can override” option.
The Copilot button option was disabled after a few minutes and a browser restart.

With this configuration, the Copilot button is no longer visible, and Copilot Chat is unavailable in Edge for Business.

If administrators previously used the HubsSidebarEnabled policy to hide the Copilot Chat button, they should now switch to the new Edge policy. HubsSidebarEnabled no longer affects the visibility of the Copilot Chat button beginning with Edge version 141.
