Rendering of Loop components in Word for the web to be retired in September 2025

Microsoft is discontinuing support for rendering Loop components in Word for the web, impacting how users view and interact with these components.
The ability to add new Loop components was already deprecated in September 2024, and starting September 2025, existing components will no longer render in the online version of Word.

This retirement aligns Word for the web with the desktop experience, where Loop components are shown as read-only placeholders.

How does this affect your users?
  • Starting 1 September 2025, existing Loop components in Word for the web will no longer render interactively.
  • The ability to insert new Loop components in Word for the web was already deprecated in September 2024.

Instead of interactive content, users will see them as read-only placeholders with a link to open the component externally (e.g., in the Loop web app or Teams app). This ensures no data is lost, but in-document editing will no longer be possible.
