Microsoft will retire the Android and iOS mobile apps for Microsoft Lists. This change affects users on both platforms and will roll out in phases between late June and mid-November 2025.
Timeline
- Late June 2025
The mobile apps will show an informational banner, alerting users to the upcoming retirement and recommending the mobile web experience. - Mid-September 2025
New installations of the Microsoft Lists mobile apps will be blocked for all users. - Mid-November 2025
The apps will be removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Existing installations will display an error when launched.
Impact for your users
After the retirement, users can no longer install or open the Microsoft Lists mobile apps.
All existing list data remains intact and accessible via:
- Microsoft Lists for Windows desktop (it’s not really a desktop app, it’s a PWA browser app)
- Microsoft Lists in a mobile browser
- Microsoft Lists on a desktop browser
Microsoft recommends switching to the Microsoft Lists mobile browser experience as an alternative to the Lists mobile app, which offers richer functionality and ongoing updates.
Why is this being retired? I use a lot of lists with staff and this may make it more difficult to convince management to use the lists going forward.
Hello Kari, Microsoft mentioned they will invest more into the mobile browser experience, which offers more functionality and continues to be updated with latest improvements.
This is BS – again Microsoft seems to be not understanding how their _________ customers use there tools. I have the list app connected to well over 20 different client tenants, with multiple’s of 10 lists connected. To just simply ‘use’ the web browser would mean to sign out of one tenant and back into another, going through all the MFA’s that come with that.. Between this, Steam, charging different price points for ________ security policies… I am now forced to consider moving away from MS entirely.
Any ideas on how to get the scanning function working when using the web browser version? We have been using lists to scan barcodes and that is not working outside of the app.
Hm, good question. The web version does not support barcode scanning for now.
Maybe you can try the barcode reader in Power Apps, as described here.
