End of support for “OneNote for Windows 10” in October 2025

The support period for OneNote for Windows 10 (the UWP app) was extended in August 2021 until October 2025.

Microsoft reminds that the support for OneNote for Windows 10 will end on 14 October 2025. The OneNote desktop app has been recommended since August 2021. The OneNote app was also replaced in the Microsoft Store in October 2022.

  • Administrators should follow the Deployment Guide for OneNote and use the OneNote migration script.
  • Similar information is available for users with OneNote for Windows 10, for an independent migration.
  • In October 2024 only, the OneNote team will provide personal support for the migration. Administrators should leave feedback at MC899174 with the request for support (thumbs up or down at the end and add a comment).
  • As of 1 November 2024, employees will no longer be able to reinstall OneNote for Windows 10. This affects the OneNote Legacy (UWP) app (only available in the Microsoft Store via direct link, not via search).

  • Starting in January 2025, OneNote for Windows 10 will notify users to migrate and remind them to do so by October 2025.

Starting in January 2025, users will start to see notifications in OneNote for Windows 10 about the end of support. These notifications will provide additional information and direct users to resources for a smooth transition.

OneNote for Windows 10 users are encouraged to download the upgraded OneNote on Windows from the Microsoft Store, if it is not already included on your device, to begin the process. After signing into the updated app and opening your selection of notebooks, you’re done!
